Consider Renovating your Kitchen Cabinets
December 28, 2012 - Cabinets
If you are having thoughts of new kitchen cabinets, renovation should be carefully considered. Kitchen renovations can be quite costly but there are ways to cut costs if you do a little research. The decision to renovate kitchen cabinetry should include cost analysis and options such as refacing cabinets versus rebuilding.

Any kind of home improvement can be costly, but done right it doesn?t have to break your budget. One of the first things that people want to change is their kitchen cabinets. Renovation seems to center around that taking into account either new placement of cabinets, more cabinet space or just a new look. The cheapest way to change the look of your kitchen is through cabinet refacing.

With a variety of finishes available, refacing may be the type of kitchen cabinetry renovation that works well for you. Wood veneers are a rich looking alternative to the real thing and come in different looks such as oak, maple, birch and more. To save even more money, plastic laminates are a great choice They look like real wood and come in several colors.

One caveat is that they only work on flat cabinets. Another idea is cabinet refacing with rigid thermo foils. The vinyl molds have a variety of wood-like styles and colors and are actually not rigid, but moldable to any shape cabinet. Some people choose to replace the cabinet doors entirely. Though this is more pricey, it can still be within budget depending on the materials you choose.

There are many options from solid wood to laminate and raised, flat or recessed panels to renovate kitchen cabinetry. The cabinet doors range from thick, thin, grooved, straight edged or curved and can be mixed and matched while paying attention to complimentary styles and colors.

When deciding to change your kitchen cabinets, renovation the hardware, such as knobs and hinges, can make a big difference in style. Chrome knobs, wood knobs, rod iron knobs all set the tone and mood of the cabinet and subsequently the entire kitchen. The hardware should be strong and durable, since this is the most used piece of the cabinet.

A bigger way to renovate kitchen cabinetry is by entirely replacing the cabinets. This is more costly, but sometimes a better or necessary option when redoing the entire kitchen. When creating a new floor plan everything must flow, including the kitchen cabinets. Renovation can include adding more cabinet space or actually making them bigger with different shelving options. It?s all about space, placement and aesthetics when creating a new kitchen and ultimately a new central hub in your home.

When you renovate kitchen cabinetry, it is often the most expensive part of the kitchen renovation. Making smart decisions about materials will greatly affect your cost and your kitchen cabinets. Renovation that looks great and fits your budget is always satisfying and rewarding. Sometimes small changes have bigger results than a major change. But whatever your choice, do your research and do it right the first time.
